Baby smiles and other simple pleasures

I know Adam is only 5 weeks old, an age where some people attribute smiles to passing gas, but he’s really smiling already. Sure, it may be a coincidence that they come right after I say his name and he turns his head to look at me, but I don’t think so. It’s almost as if he’s practicing smiling – he looks at me smiling at him then turns up one corner of his mouth and then the other.

It’s been quite an adjustment going from 2 to 3 kids but it’s coming along. Not sure how we would have managed without help from my mother-in-law, who has helped tremendously, from cooking and cleaning to countless hours of working with Zachary on potty training.

Adam’s smiles are beautiful and he is so cuddly. The other two are growing so much and here is what they’ve been up to lately:

Zachary is really into discovering what letter words start with. A common conversation these days: “What does sink start with?” “Sss, S.” “Like snake?” “Yes.” “What else starts with S?” And then we come up with other words. Sometimes his speech is a little difficult to decipher so there’s also some guessing involved. For instance, he was trying to say zipper but I couldn’t understand what he was trying to say. “Like you open and close,” was his hint. This process also helps the adult say the word clearly so he can repeat it.

Another game we play is finding the objects in a room that are a certain color or shape. These are great games especially when I’m immobile on the couch nursing the baby. He’s made tremendous progress with potty training and often goes in on his own to pee. Still working on the other, although if we catch him in time it’s successful.

We’ve been making popsicles a lot this past week. Apple juice and orange juice so far and today I made one from a smoothie I made for breakfast: yogurt, strawberries, banana and apple juice.

Jadon’s vocabulary keeps growing. When I read him books at night, he’s able to name more and more of the pictured objects. Shirt, pants, moon, shoe, spoon, car, cat, etc. Some of his current sentences: “Daddy is at wook.” “Is it hot?” “Is it hot outside?” “I doit.”(When putting on his pants). “I want dwi.” (To dry his hands after “I wash hands.”). “Is it beeken?” (broken) He really expresses himself well. He also likes to give kisses, a big “mwah!” He bumps into things often, then says “Owie.” Followed by a mwah kiss.
